Refurbishment at Wanaka’s Edgewater Hotel

A major refurbishment project is now underway at Edgewater with construction contractors commencing work in April 2023, focused on one-third of the hotel’s guest rooms

The refurbishment of the guest rooms will involve:

  • the introduction of air-conditioning units in all rooms,

  • double glazing of the windows,

  • bathroom revamp – including removal of baths and tiling of new shower area,

  • installation of energy-efficient LED lighting, new joinery, furniture and interior styling throughout.

The kitchenettes - a feature in the one-bedroom apartments - will be re-styled and enhanced with new full-sized refrigerators, new cook-top/rangehood and associated cabinetry.

“The key aim of the refurbishment programme is to modernise the hotel to ensure it retains its firm position in the market as a 4.5 star hotel and to complement Edgewater’s spectacular lake-front setting”, comments General Manager Colin McClean.

The refurbishment programme is due to run until October 2023 and will affect rooms located in the 100’s, 200’s and 300’s.  “The construction area is in one part of the hotel, which will be fenced off.  We will continue to operate the hotel as usual, and no guest amenities will be affected” adds Colin.  See Refurbished Room Location Map

More information on styling and renders of the refurbished rooms will be showcased at TRENZ (8-11 May) and via newsletters in coming months.

The refurbished rooms will be available for guest stays from 1 December 2023, and will shortly be loaded into the reservations system.  They will attract a modest premium rate and will be commissionable to agents.

This project is phase one, of a three phased programme that will roll out in 2024 and 2025, which will see all guest rooms and guest areas revamped.  In total this represents an investment of up to $20 million made by the New Zealand owners of the hotel.
